Excited with this opportunity with Loyola University Chicago and students of their exercise science program. Being able to show them how to work with folks of different abilities/skillsets, design exercise programs to meet the needs of a variety of clients, and how to properly run/manage a fitness business will give these students a better perspective on this part of the industry.

Each week they will design programs based off specific scenarios (client needs, abilities/fitness level, mobility etc). We'll post their programs so that everyone can benefit.

Thank you for your support

Evolution Strength and Conditioning

We are happy to partner with Loyola University Chicago and their exercise science program to offer students a fantastic internship opportunity. Mike is a product of their business program (class of 2009) and is very grateful for the skills learned during his studies there. Collaborating with Loyola will allow us to give back to the program/institution that has allowed us to succeed in this industry. We look forward to working with these students during their 2018 spring semester.
We're looking forward to working with these interns to provide them a real world experience in the growing fitness industry. #evofitchi #chicagogym #smallbuisness #fitfam #loyola #quinlanschoolofbusiness @loyolaquinlan @loyolachicago

Evolution Strength and Conditioning

From the mind of Mike,

Hope everyone had a Happy (and safe) New Year.

One of my business goals for 2018 is to put together a monthly update and send to our members to keep everyone in the loop with what is happening at the gym. Will do my best to get these sent out the first of the week each month.

1) Our new "recovery device"

Earlier last month myself and another lifter were discussing the benefits of a new "recovery tool" on the market that uses vibration therapy.

The science behind the vibration therapy for the recovery of muscles, breaking up scar tissue, and warming them up prior to training has been well documented and this device seemed to fill that need for athletes of all disciplines. The price tag for this thing was $600+ which in our opinion was asinine. The tool is basically a "jigsaw" with a special attachment instead of a blade. Long story short, we bought 2 x jigsaw tools and outfitted them with the same attachment that provides the same "vibration" therapy for a fraction of the cost. If you are interested in having some recovery work done with this device please let me know of reach out to one of our coaches.

2) Furnaces

This winter has been mild up until the Christmas holiday. Temperatures went from 40s to snow and single digit cold overnight Christmas Eve. This was a drastic compared the last winters (2016-2017) mild winter temps. The furnaces at the gym worked overtime to keep up with the outdoor temps but failed miserably (some days it was 58 degrees inside). We have 2 furnaces in the gym on the 1st floor. One unit was repeatedly overheating causing the 2nd one to overcompensate. Nevertheless it was difficult to have our guys come by the gym to resolve the issue between the Christmas holiday and New Year.

This past week we finally got them repaired (new motors) and are now working properly. I apologize for this especially if it affected your training.

3) Platforms

We have 3 platforms on the 1st floor. The far platform (closest to the garage) is built using hardwood (no flex) and feels like concrete when lifting on it. The other 2 have a plywood center (medium flex). The middle platform was abused by myself during my preparation for the 2015 Kettlebell World Championships. At the time we had the first floor only and has dropped my bells on the plywood tops numerous times. The first platform (closest to the smith machine) was recently damaged when a member was using a trap bar (hexagon bar) with metal plates and dropping it on the platform. The issue here is the plates are so close together because of the hex bar that 1 side with have weights on the rubber (which is good and fine) but the other wide will be in contact over the plywood top (which is bad and will damage the surface).

If you are going to use the platforms, please refrain from dropping metal weights onto the center wood surface. This will prevent the platforms from getting ruined. The wood top is designed for the lifter to stand on, not for weights to be dropped onto it. Weights are supposed to be dropped onto the rubber sides.

Both of those platforms have been repaired this weekend (last coat of stain applied this afternoon).

If you notice the platforms feeling "slippery" let me know. A quick coat of Murphys wood oil will help protect the wood surface and provide a "tacky" feeling that should prevent slippage.

4) Evo swag

Our full zip hoodies have been a huge hit. We still have some sizes available (small, medium, large). XL, XXL, and XXXL sizes are in production and should be in by the end of the month. Let me know if you are interested. $40 and they are yours.

5) Recovery suits by @Rapid Reboot

We've partnered up with Rapid Reboot to offer our members/guests use of compression suits for recovery. These suits are available by appointment. Everyone gets a trial session on me. Again, if you're interested let me know. If you want to use these suits regularly the pricing is as follows...

$15 for 10-20 minutes
$20 for 30 minutes
$50 for 1 month unlimited use
$90 for 3 months unlimited use

Thanks for taking the time to look this over. I want to thank each of you for your continued support. If there is anything I can do to improve your training experience here at Evo, please do not hesitate to contact me directly (info@evofitchicago.com)

Evolution Strength and Conditioning

Throwback Thursday.
We started in a small 1500sqft private studio in 2009. At the time we were one of the first facilities in Chicago to provide a "turn-key" solution for independent trainers to operate their personal training business.
We provided clients a better training experience compared to what they would receive at big box gyms.
Fast forward to now.
It's getting close to 2018. We still strive to provide the best training experience possible for our clients; but we now provide a unique venue to bring together athletes of different disciplines. This creates a community where we all can learn from each other and grow into better versions of ourselves.
As we enter into our 9th year as a small business gym here in Chicago; we find it important to look back the beginning.
It's amazing to look back where we started and see where we are today. It hasn't been easy but watching this idea grow into the machine it is today has truly been a gift.
We want to thank you all (both past and current clients, members, trainers) for your support throughout the years, without you this would not have been possible.
