Just a peek of the recovery tools available to our members/clients/guests. Yesenia spends 8-12 minutes making sure her soft tissues are ready before her session. Releasing the glutes, hamstrings, the IT band, and her calves using our "grid" roller and percussion massager.

We offer daily drop in fees for $10. As always our members enjoy full use of the facility 24/7.

Our @loyolachicago interns have been helping us since the beginning of the year. Along with exercise progressions/regressions they are learning more about unconventional styles of training. They've "sat in" and shadowed some of our sport athletes train during their kettlebell sets. Now they are learning how to use them.

This kettlebell exercise would be great for my bball players also.

Intern update! We've been enjoying having our @loyolachicago interns around. Between shadowing different trainers, helping with daily responsibilities/tasks, and their own personal workouts they are keeping busy. A big part of this internship program is teaching them how to accommodate the needs of various clients. They learned that the "deadlift" is arguably the best exercise for building overall strength. Unfortunately it's not for everyone. We asked the interns to come up with 4 alternatives to the conventional deadlift and explain the benefits/advantages of each. Here is what Asawer came up with. 1) Trap bar deadlift - takes strain off the low back and is a great tool to introduce the lift. 2) wide stance/sumo deadlift - good for lifters with longs legs/short torso. Torso is able to remain upright and can use legs to drive up weight. 3) Romanian deadlift - places emphasis on the hamstrings, good for those with limited flexibility. 4) Kettlebell deadlift - great lift for beginners, teaches proper lifting mechanics.

If you are looking for deadlift alternativs give these a try!

He killed it after he killed it twice.

Hope everyone is staying safe on the roads! Please remember to bring a change of shoes when coming to the gym. Helps us keep the place cleaner if everyone leaves their street shoes/boots at the door and changes into gym shoes before training.

Monthly Update (Feb 2018)

1) Our Interns

As you may be aware, our internship program is in full effect. Until the end of April we will have interns from Loyola University Chicago at the gym. They will be here to learn how our trainers accommodate the needs of a wide array of clients, the endless varieties of exercises that can be done with our equipment, and see what it truly means to run a successful fitness business. We are very happy to have them around. They have been helping big time with some projects including polishing the dumbbells, barbell maintenance, re-targeting the wall ball shot area, numbering the squat racks, and general clean up.

2) Barbell Maintenance

If you have your personal bar(s) here at the gym. These interns helped with the maintenance of it. They were brushed clean to remove any residue (chalk, DNA, dirt/grime), cleaned with a light solution, then coated with oil to prevent rusting and restore it's finish. Looking ahead, we're leaving out a pair of nylon brushes out (they can be found on the steel beams near the platforms) so that you can brush down your bar after use as a courtesy to the next user. All barbells have been cleaned with "Barshield" (a company that produces a cleaning/care solution designed specifically for barbells).

3) Weightlifting bars

We've recently seen a rise in athletes coming to the gym to train for Olympic weightlifting. In an effort to provide only the best training experience possible we've brought in 2 Pendlay bars for these athletes to use. These bars have been considered the "gold standard" in weightlifting over the past 5-10 years. The company recently went out of business making these bars extremely hard to find. We've restored these bars with the help from our friends at Barshield. These bars will be locked up but are available to members. If interested please see me so we can show you how to unlock them.

4) Our Recovery Leggings

Members have been very pleased with the recovery leggings from Rapid Reboot. Again, these compression suits are available for members to use as a means to jump start the recovery process after a hard training session (or hard week of training sessions). The suits work by providing a series of sequential compressions designed to improve blood flow, remove toxins, and massage the muscles. We recommend trying these out after a workout. First time users receive a complimentary session. Afterwards is $15 for 10 minutes or $20 for 20-30 minutes. We offer unlimited use of the suits for $50/month or $90 for 3 months.

5)Our DIY Percussion Massager

Members have been taking advantage of this warm up/recovery tool since we introduced this percussion massager at the end of December. Since then we added a 2nd device to keep up with the demand. The "vibration therapy" is a unique feeling. The muscles get warm from the involuntary excitation of the muscles and you feel "loose" and ready to go. These tools are out on the shelves by the stretch tables for you to use. If you need help targeting hard to reach muscles, do not hesitate to ask a staff member for help.

6) Our SWAG

We did a trial run on some sweatpants from the same supplier we used for our hoodies and they came out AWESOME. Thick, warm, and comfortable; these sweatpants taper at the leg for that "fitted" look. Zippered pockets to secure your belongings and very good mobility allow you to train freely at the gym. We have limited sizes available (XS, S, XL, XXL).

We are re-stocked with our full zip hoodies. We have all sizes in stock (XS, S, M, M, XXL, 3XL). You may have seen folks sport these at the gym. Keeps us warm during the Chicago winter.

Both the sweatpants and the hoodies are going for $40. If interested, please let me know and I will set your size aside.

Thank you again for your support and for being a part of this fitness community. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
